Laura McLean was indie before indie was cool. It was lonely. Now the tide has turned and indies outweigh the majors by far, and Laura made her way from folk to pop to rock to shredderville to hiphop and beyond. Forging an L blend that is at once memorable and totally individual, she still rides the edge of the chitlin circuit underground, embracing cult status as a guitarist and cultivating art and education in NC's at-risk youth populations. Her repertoire is huge, and her fearless spontaniety stands out in the indie crowd. Folks who show up and sit near the front at an LM gig know they might have to endure an impromptu rap about their orange and purple shoes..or something their dog did in the neighborhood..all's fair in love and hiphop! And who but L would pick up someone's recently vacated lawn chair and play slide guitar with it?
