LM at NYC's Bitter End

Laura McLean was indie before indie was cool. It was lonely.

Now the tide has turned and indies outweigh the majors by far, and Laura made her way from folk to pop to rock to shredderville to hiphop and beyond. Forging an L blend that is at once memorable and totally individual, she still rides the edge of the chitlin circuit underground, embracing cult status as a guitarist and cultivating art and education in NC's at-risk youth populations.

Her repertoire is huge, and her fearless spontaniety stands out in the indie crowd.
Folks who show up and sit near the front at an LM gig know they might have to endure an impromptu rap about their orange and purple shoes..or something their dog did in the neighborhood..all's fair in love and hiphop! And who but L would pick up someone's recently vacated lawn chair and play slide guitar with it?

Press Kit Pronto

One-Sentence Bios for your press needs:

Laura McLean is a native of Wilmington NC and and a long time arts and education activist. (who is never at a loss for words or guitar riffs..)

Laura McLean, the fluid lead guitarist of Calamity and Someone's Sister, also runs her own recording studio/record label, under the moniker of Coolcalm. ....(and drinks too many melita-filtered javas)

Laura McLean has been called the Swiss Army Knife of the Arts in the Cape Fear region. (among other things....)

From folk to rock to hiphop, to faux Hindu versions of Bobby McGee and Dylan/Julia Childs versions of What's Up...McLean has maintained her own distinct  GnL Superhawk  (double humbuckers w/classic floating Kahler tremolo....awwww..ahem...)..sound while absorbing info, honing skills and forging her musical future from the carolina moss and sand of her roots to the cutting edge studio voodoo of today's constantly-changing song landscapes. (wha?)

She can PLAY. (She enjoys it too much, say some)

Take Back the Night PDF Print E-mail

Doing something dependably for 21 years is a feather in anyone's hat. That feather weighs heavy when it's attached to every murder and heinous assault in my hometown. Thursday October 7, we will once again gather at the Wilmington Waterfront in protest of domestic violence and in support of its victims, with a march thru the downtown streets and a candlelight vigil.

Domestic violence has been heavy locally, nationally, and internationally this year. I would like to see this year's turnout reflect that. Call someone, take someone, educate some kids...whatever you have to do..let's make this the hugest take back the night rally every to hit the port city streets...

Kris and Joan and I will haul the PA, set up the sound, play a few tunes, light a candle, pray, and loadout. All I am asking is that you show up if you care. Thanks.
